Well, for now I suppose my blog will be reduced to this: A convenient way for me to post pictures and descriptions of my new arrival vehicles for sale.
SO BE IT.
Here is the newest-of-new arrivals; a 1988 Toyota Landcruiser mid-wheelbase BJ74 with the 13BT direct-injected diesel engine. I just turned this thing over to 160K KM on the clock, which is 100,000 original miles, which is nothing for one of these trucks.
I'll cut and paste my ad from another site here:
"I just (legally) imported this 1988 BJ74 Land Cruiser here. RHD/ Automatic. BIG PTO winch in the front bumper. I just turned it over 160K KM (Only 100K miles) on the drive home, and it runs/ drives/shifts and stops like a low-mileage truck.
Body/frame/interior/wheels/suspension all original and looking great. Perfectly straight, no rust, no accident damage. Paint is original there is no rust whatsoever, other than surface small 'stains' in the paint around any tiny paint chips or small scratches, which will wipe off with some steel wool, or even a rubbing with a rag and cleaner. There is no rust going down into the metal, or anything that could be considered serious.
13BT direct-injected turbo 3.4L diesel engine starts right up without having to wait for the glowplugs. 4-speed automatic transmission shifts as it should. Interior looks great, a 9 out of 10. You can hop in this and drive anywhere, right now. Power windows, power mirrors, AC all work. Removable FRP fiberglass top looks great, headliner is perfect. Go convertible this summer with this one.
The only problems with the truck are very minor; drivers side power window, when taken all the way to the top, makes ratcheting noise- regulator has a chipped tooth at the very top, does not affect function. Paint is a bit faded here and there, but will still clean up and shine nice. Paint is about a 7 out of 10, the biggest detractor from perfection for this truck.
I returned about 25MPG yesterday on the freeway going almost 80MPH for five hours.
Original cassette deck/ radio work great. Seats look terrific.
I'm looking for $15K or something close, I think it will pull that easily on ebay. If it were a Rover in this condition it would fetch $25K and up!"
For those of you who don't know, this is the spiritual successor of the iconic FJ40 - That Toyota 'Jeep' from the 1960s and 1970s with the white roof that came off, that one of the cool kids drove to high school. This one is (arguably) better because it is modern with creature comforts like power windows, power mirrors, air conditioning, door locks that work, and adjustable seats. This one also averages about 25MPG as opposed to the 12-14MPG of it's Daddy Cruiser. It has also (arguably) more panache as it is incredibly rare here in the USA - they were never legally imported nor available through the dealer network. Now that they are 25 years old, our friends at the NHTSA will let them be imported on an exemption voucher.
I'll start putting more posts up here now, and I have a new website going up too where this will be more organized and 'business like' - but I love to interject an opinion, comment, joke, and my more personal thoughts on the vehicles offered will be found here at Laughs and Lashings.
OH - I want $15000 for this Cruiser, a very fair price. The only one like it sold on ebay in the last 60 days went for $17000 in LA, but it had a 5-speed instead of an auto box, and even lower miles on the dial.
